Increased drinking water consumption in Bad Homburg due to the heat wave
The ongoing heat wave and lack of rain have also led to increased drinking water consumption in Bad Homburg. 🥵 According to the municipal utilities, daily consumption is currently classified as high to very high, and the supply of external water has already been fully exhausted. For this reason, the city administration and the municipal utilities have switched the water traffic light to yellow. 🚦
"Although demand can still be met at present, we want to clearly signal that we must reduce consumption. 📉 It is essential to avoid a shortage of drinking water supplies, and keep in mind that we are only in the middle of peak summer," explains Mayor Dr. Oliver Jedynak.
The city asks citizens to observe the following points:
Water conservation and conscious use of drinking water
💧 Use drinking water sparingly and only where it is really necessary.
💧 Limit watering the garden to no more than two waterings per week.
💧 It's best to avoid watering lawns altogether. 💧 Do not use drinking water for washing vehicles, cleaning exterior areas of buildings, patios, or similar applications.
💧 Avoid filling pools, cisterns or other water storage tanks.
💧 If large quantities of drinking water must be withdrawn urgently, for example via standpipes, prior consultation with the municipal utilities is essential.
➡️ The current level of the water traffic light can be found on the website of the city of Bad Homburg at
https://www.bad-homburg.de/de/stadt/umwelt-und-klima/wasserampel and on the Stadtwerke website at https://www.stadtwerke-bad-homburg.de/service/wasserampel . It will soon be available again in the navigation of the Bad Homburg app. 📱 In addition, there are two real (water) traffic lights in the city area that draw attention to this issue. One is located in front of the Seedammbad swimming pool and another in front of the train station. The latter is powered by solar energy.
